This Plan Change was notified on 15 December 2023 and submissions closed on Monday 5 February 2024. The period for further submissions closed on 19 April 2024 and no further submissions were received. A hearing was held on Friday 8 November 2024 and was formally closed at 10:41am on Friday 6 December 2024. The Hearing Panel’s decision was adopted by the Tasman District Council, at the Strategy and Policy Committee meeting on Wednesday19th February 2025. The appeal period for this Plan Change is currently open and it will close on Wednesday 21st May. All appeals must be lodged with the Environment Court.

The purpose and objective of Plan Change 80 is to rezone land in Motueka West from Rural 1 deferred Residential to Residential – Compact Density, and to enable medium-density housing. The Nelson Tasman Future Development Strategy 2022-2052 (FDS) forecast that population growth in Motueka, cannot be met without releasing additional land for urban development. This proposed Plan Change addresses that need with smaller lot sizes and smaller dwellings within the Plan Change area.
