The Tasman region, like many other parts of the world, is facing the impacts of climate change. Rising sea levels, increasing temperatures, and more frequent extreme weather events are just some of the challenges that we face. We must act now to reduce emissions, prepare for current and future impacts, and respond to the effects we are already experiencing.
The Council adopted the first climate action plan in 2019. We have recently reviewed this plan and developed a comprehensive Tasman Climate Response and Resilience Strategy and Action Plan, to guide our efforts to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The budgets included within the Action Plan part of the document show where the Council will invest in climate action over the next 10 years. The final Strategy and Action Plan was adopted by Council on 27 June 2024:
Council staff provide brief quarterly updates and detailed annual reports of progress on the Climate Action Plan.
Progress is reported in 'Climate Change Update' reports to the Strategy and Policy Committee.
