Volunteering

Volunteers make tremendous contributions to our district. Here's some ways you can help.

Volunteers contribute significantly to many community organisations, community-run events as well some Council-run events and activities. The time, energy and skills they donate help make the Tasman District the special place it is.

In the Nelson Tasman region last year approximately 3,000,000 hours were volunteered - without this support many of the services and facilities that we all take for granted could not be provided.

Want to volunteer?

There are a variety of volunteer groups that you could work with. The Council works with several of these groups on local projects. Volunteer Nelson also has an overview of all the opportunities available. Check out their website for what is currently happening.(external link)

Why volunteer?

You might want to meet new people and socialise, gain some work-related experience or give your experience and skills back to the community. Either way, it's a win-win situation; both you and the community benefit.

The great thing about volunteering is that you can do as much, or as little, as suits you, and everybody can make a positive contribution.

More reasons to volunteer:

  • Develop new and existing skills
  • Gain work experience
  • Network in your community
  • Have fun
  • Meet a diverse range of people
  • Improve your English language skills
  • Make a valuable contribution to your community
