Education

Our goal for environmental education is to empower our communities with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively care for their environment.

The four key environmental education areas for our team are waste minimisation, water quality, biodiversity and air quality.

We support environmental education in Tasman by:

  • Providing facilitators who support 30 Enviroschools across the Tasman District. The Enviroschools Kaupapa is about creating a healthy, peaceful, sustainable world through learning and taking action together. You can read more about Enviroschools here.
  • Forming community partnerships to support the incredible mahi of the many community groups and organisations across Tasman who are working to improve the health and mauri of the whenua. Examples include Project Mohua, Tasman Environmental Trust and Tasman Bay Guardians.
  • Working alongside businesses on local restoration projects. A recent example is planting along the Motupipi River in Mohua/Golden Bay with Fonterra staff and local school students.
  • Supporting community events to become more sustainable through our waste minimisation grants and Rethink Waste event planning resources
  • Making it easier to make positive environmental choices through initiatives like our e-waste and car seat recycling subsidies and compost/bokashi/worm farm subsidy.
