Brightwater town centre upgrade

What did we do?

We made improvements to Ellis Street to make it a safer, more attractive public space.

The upgrade featured:

a shared footpath wide enough for pedestrians and cyclists on the Wakefield side of Ellis Street;
traffic calming islands to provide safer crossing areas;
new kerb and channel in isolated areas to manage any stormwater;
undergrounding of power lines and some street to home connections for an uncluttered skyline;
streetscaping - including landscaping, planting, street furniture, and street lighting to give the area a unique feel.

Why did we do it?

Brightwater is a rapidly-growing community and with that comes some pressures on Ellis Street, as the main route through the village. We wanted to ensure it is safe for all users, as well as being an attractive public space.
