It is recommended recreational users allow the water to clear before using the beach again after periods of heavy rainfall.
Tukurua Beach is a 20 drive southeast of Collingwood. Access to the site is restricted to campground users only.
During the peak Christmas-January period when the campground is full the beach has between 100 and 200 visitors a day.
The main recreational use is swimming and boating which can be carried out 1.5-2 hours each side of high tide. A small swimming hole in the river near the camp's playground is currently not recommended due to frequent poor water quality.
