It is recommended recreational users allow the water to clear before using the beach again after periods of heavy rainfall.
The back beach at Moturoa/Rabbit Island forms part of the Waimea Inlet. The beach is about 15 minutes north-west of Richmond. Turn off State Highway 60 onto Redwood Road.
During the peak Christmas-January period the beach has between 30 and 60 visitors a day.
The main activity is waterskiing.
The water is only deep enough for water skiing for 1.5-2 hours each side of high tide.
