It is recommended recreational users allow the water to clear before using the beach again after periods of heavy rainfall.
Mārahau Beach is about twenty minutes drive north of Motueka. From the boat ramp near the entrance to Mārahau, follow the sea-wall north for about 450m.
On average there is only a 2-3 hour window of opportunity for water-based recreation due to the tide. During the peak Christmas- January period the beach has about 120 and 160 visitors a day.
The main recreational uses are swimming and kayaking.
