It is recommended recreational users allow the water to clear before using the beach again after periods of heavy rainfall.

Lee River Reserve is 10 minutes drive east of Brightwater.
During the peak periods from Christmas-February the reserve has between 400 and 500 visitors a day. The swimming hole on average attracts about 20-50 visitors a day and is also popular on warm summer week-day evenings after school or work.
The main recreational use is swimming, but kayaking is also popular at times with school and club groups.
