The Government’s Warmer Kiwi Homes programme has offered grants for insulation to low-income owner-occupied homes since July 2018.
Grants cover two-thirds of the cost of installing insulation or approved heaters but for the latter, grants will be capped at a maximum of $2,500.
Grants for heaters – efficient heat pumps, wood burners and pellet burners are also available.
Homeowners can check their eligibility by using a simple tool:

Home owners are eligible for a grant if they are the homeowner (not a Landlord) and the:
To be eligible for a grant for a heater, the home must have existing ceiling and underfloor insulation that is up to EECA standards.
Home owners may also be eligible if a service provider contracted to EECA has assessed the home and found they can’t install insulation.
Based on previous programmes, we expect most homeowners to choose a heat pump but low emission wood burners will be offered as an option given the potentially low running costs.
