Plan change details

Wainui Bay Spat Catching group have requested a change to the Tasman Resource Management Plan. This private plan change seeks to provide the marine farming industry with certainty that spat catching farms in Wainui Bay can continue beyond the current term of consent (2024). To achieve this certainty, the private plan change proposes to rezone the eight spat catching sites to a newly created zone - AMA 4 - Wainui. Within this zone mussel spat catching (<40 mm) and mussel spat holding (40-60 mm) are controlled activities and mussel farming (>60 mm) is prohibited. Amended policy and text recognises the national and regional importance of the area for spat catching. No new space or activities are proposed.
