The new National Environmental Standard for Plantation Forestry has significantly changed the way we monitor forestry activities in Tasman District. Under the new standard, the Council is now responsible for monitoring permitted activities such as earthworks, crossings, quarrying and harvesting.

The extra monitoring comes at a cost, so we are proposing to introduce charges on the individual or company being monitored so these extra costs don’t fall solely on general ratepayers.

The proposed charges are:

Fees and Charges

Pre-harvest activity

Per inspection

$650.00

Harvesting activity

Per inspection

$650.00

Per upstream and downstream sample for colour, turbidity, and suspended solids, if required

$120.00

Post-harvesting activity

Per inspection

$650.00

Per upstream and downstream sample for colour, turbidity, and suspended solids, if required

$120.00

Charging for processing and monitoring of resource consents is separate.
