Nelson Drag Racing Association is seeking resource consent for four drag racing events a year for 10 years at the Motueka Aerodrome, 124 Queen Victoria Street, Motueka. This is a replacement consent for their existing one that expired on 11 May 2019.

The drag racing would be held on Saturdays – with a backup day to the next day (Sunday) for two of the events – any National Race or Easter Saturday event. This might involve all or part of an event on that next day to complete the whole race programme.

Events would run between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm on a Saturday, but could be extended to 5.00 pm in some circumstances. On any backup Sunday, events would start no earlier than 10.00 am and finish by 4.00.pm.

The proposal includes:

  • up to 3000 people attending any single event;
  • parking for at least 1000 cars will be provided;
  • signage is limited to a single sign; and
  • no tyre popping to occur.
